The Youth Group participated in the ICUC service held on Tuesday, May 13 and are excited to get more involved in our community with this great community of congregations. We are hard at work on learning to crochet so that we may make quilts for the homeless this coming holiday season. Until then, Lynda Parker is busy helping and putting together the quilt that she and Ashley Vardiman have started.
Mothers’ Day was a wonderful celebration of both Pentecost and mothers as the youth made and gave to every woman corsages in celebration of the day. They also served as hosts with a delightful strawberry dessert after service. The youth are now serving at one service a month in order to serve their church community better. We thank those who have taught us how to serve, especially Ernie Frey and Ken Ungs, in being patient and showing us when and where to usher and assist. Also, thank you to Lynda Parker for taking the time out of her week to show us how to make changes to the altar before service on Sundays. And thank you to Jacob Johnson for organizing and teaching us how to serve at service.
May also brought our rummage sale and we will be reporting on that next month. All proceeds from the rummage sale will go towards the ELCA youth gathering in New Orleans in 2009.
Planning for this year’s Annual Youth Dinner on Saturday, July 19 continues, and the theme is Mardi Gras. If you have craft items you no longer need, drop them off in the youth box in the narthex or at the church office. The youth needs just about anything you can think of, especially feathers, beads, felt, wire, glue, popsicle sticks, balloons, old masks, and shoe boxes. See Christina Wilkins for more information.
If you love making crafts or just want to donate something to the youth, we are in need of donations to auction off at our youth dinner in July. If you make baskets or you work for a place that can contribute gift certificates, we will gladly accept anything. If there is something else you think we might need please contact Kerri Swanson at (909) 882-8101. Thank you for your support!
The youth group meets every other Friday from 7pm to 9pm. June’s meeting dates are the 6 and 20.
